Cutting the cord?

Ok girls.....I've been thinking about a tubal ligation since the pill is making me REALLY fat, and no other options work for me.......can I have some feedback on experiences? I can read all the studies-I want some real opinons. What are the effects on sex drive? Your period? Your moods? Weight gain, or loss?

I'm trying to decide what I want to do. We know that even if we want more kids, we'd rather adopt older children, if or when we're in a position to do so. So that's not at issue. I'm concerned about the effects on me....

guys-feel free to add your views if your partner had one...I'm curious as to what the outward effects are...

Wish I had advise for you. But I will be curious to see what your readers will have to say. Cause it'll be a discussion we'll be having soon enough too.

What about the coil? Its better than some injectable methods, you don't know its there and its as high an effective rate as anything else!

And it leaves things open to you IF you decide to have another child in the future....

The only thing is they are painful or can be to insert, but hey we are women and more able for the auld pain than men!

Vasectomies are better. My husband refused so I scheduled a tubal. The day before surgery he decided he didn't want me to take the risk of major surgery and relented. He was such a baby about it beforehand but it turned out to be so quick and easy and almost painless.

I had a tubal done in September. I am not good at having babies, and we have enough kids. We decided that if we had the itch for more we'd go back and read the family blog to remind us why we made this great decision in the first place. And if the itch was really bad we could adopt *LOL*.

I have no regrets. They did it at the same time I had my csection. My sister in law had one a few months after she had her baby and it was a same day proceedure and she went home. I didn't have any pain.... my period is pretty much nonexistant... and no weight gain.

My hubby had a vasectomy and it was just so easy! They don't even use scalpels any more - just a little puncture on one side and it's done. My guy had a small bruise, the size of a dime/nickel and was up and around the same day. He even went grocery shopping that evening. He was given a prescription for pain killers but he never ended up taking any.

Just thought I'd post my own experience for your consideration... (found you through blog explosion)

I'm 52 now, and I had a TL done when I was 23. I've never regretted it, not even for a moment. I'd had 2 boys and was keen to be sterilised, but the doctor (understandably) advised me rather to use contraceptive jelly. His wife did, he said. Next thing she was pregnant and so was I. So after the third one, who turned out to be an absolute delight I must add, I decided finally to go for it, and after 6 months of nagging, the new doctor finally relented. In answer to his question "What if you lose your entire family in a car accident?" my reply was that babies aren't teacups. You cannot replace them with others. People are irreplaceable. I would just have to deal with it. All are now healthy and happy adults... Our sex-life was great after the TL. I didn't gain or lose weight as a result of the procedure, and only years later, after we divorced (7 years ago), did I even have to think about using condoms again and that only because of the HIV threat.
